Our Approach to Skilling
Identifying Needs: We start by understanding the unique needs of the communities we serve. By conducting thorough assessments, we ensure that our programs are tailored to address local challenges and align with market demands.
Comprehensive Training Programs: Our skilling initiatives cover a wide range of industries and skill levels. From technical training and life skills to digital literacy and soft skills development, we offer a diverse array of programs designed to enhance employability and entrepreneurship.
Mentorship and Support: Beyond technical skills, we offer mentorship and career guidance to help individuals navigate their professional journeys.
Post Training Facilitation and Support: We ensure that skilling efforts are carried through to completion by offering certification, counseling, and access to tools, capital, and marketing resources. Our post-training cell ensures that every trainee receives the equipment they need to practice their trade. For those starting their own businesses, we provide essential materials such as shop signage, business cards, and furniture to help them get started.
Training Programs
1
Hunar
This is a residential format of training usually targeting youth who are on the very threshold of migration or who have just migrated to join low value and hazardous work in cities. These youth would have left school and are unlikely to re-join. Depending on the skill being imparted the training could range from 30 – 45 days and cover class room based theoretical inputs, practical training (through on-site internships) and also have dedicated emphasis on developing life-skills. All of these lend themselves very well to turning into viable enterprises for youth.
2
Unnati
Unnati is a special skilling programme aimed at upgrading experienced workers who are seeking to advance their work by learning new skills and acquiring new perspectives and markets. Typically Unnati is conducted for semi-skilled youth who may also have gone through Hunar in the past and have gained a foot hold in their respective fields. Also covered under Unnati are returnee migrants from cities who are now in their village
homes and are seeking to re-settle.
3
On the Job Trainings
On the Job trainings (OJTs; usually 45 days) are a unique opportunity for migrant youth to move up without foregoing wages. It is designed for low end construction and service sector workers who are working as helpers or assistants. The OJT format enables workers to skill up under the technical guidance of their work supervisors who are incentivized to ensure that the youth under their supervision are receiving appropriate skilling opportunities while at work. The OJT format has worked very well for unskilled construction workers who are employed at large sites and who are likely to remain on-site for a few months or longer.
